The SC17 conference continues its mission to build a strong and diverse HPC student community at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, through professional development programs, opportunities to learn from mentors, and engagement with SC’s technical sessions. By encouraging a strong student community centered around HPC, the SC17 Students@SC program helps ease the transition into the broader professional community. Activities at SC17 will include:
-
The Student Cluster Competition
Educational institutions that are interested in having students push their high-performance computing skills on a global stage are invited to form teams of undergraduates or high school students and sign up to compete in this high-energy event featuring young supercomputing talent from around the world competing to build, operate and tune powerful cluster computers.

-
Student Volunteers
All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply as volunteers to help support putting on the conference. In addition to being part of the conference team, students can participate in activities like professional development workshops and technical talks by well-known researchers and industry leaders.

Experiencing HPC for Undergraduates
Undergraduate students interested in learning more about high performance computing can apply to the SC17 Experiencing HPC for Undergraduates Program. The program brings U.S.-based and foreign students to the SC conference to expose them to the field and interact with academic and industrial professionals. It is a great program to learn about opportunities to pursue jobs, internships, and grad school in the HPC field.

Applications for these student programs will open around mid February. All Student Program applications must be submitted using the SC17 Submissions page at: https://submissions.supercomputing.org
In addition, all SC17 Students@SC program participants will be invited to participate in these two activities during the conference:
-
Mentor-Protégé Program
As a newcomer, join the mentors program to get matched up with more veteran participants who can provide even more details on all the conference’s in and outs. -
Student-Postdoc Job & Opportunity Fair
This face-to-face event will be open to all students and postdocs participating in the SC17 Conference, giving them an opportunity to meet with potential employers.
Lastly, within the SC17 Technical Program, the ACM Student Poster Competition and Doctoral Showcase tracks are oriented specifically toward students.
