There are parents and families in HPC. The great thing about this is, as we show our families our passion, we pass that passion onto them for the next generation of supercomputing.
Family and work are intertwined. If we can make it easier for people with families to attend SC17, that is a positive thing for everyone.
For SC17, the resources for parents and families include providing a parent’s room, opportunities for the kids that join their parents at SC, child care, and family day.
As always, we welcome your comments and questions. Email us!
Parents Room
Sometimes you just need a quiet place to be with your child. At the Denver Convention Center, we will have a Parent’s room with hard wall dividers for private feeding areas, refrigerators, changing tables, and lockers to store your personal items. Add plush chairs and we hope this room makes you comfortable with your child while you are away from home.
The room is intended for parents with infants. This will ensure the quiet and tranquility parent’s seek to take care of their babies.
The Parents room can be found on the first floor of the Denver Convention Center in room 604.
Hours of operation:
- Sunday, 8am-6pm
- Monday, 8am-9pm
- Tuesday, 8am-7pm
- Wednesday, 8am-7pm
- Thursday, 8am-6pm

In addition to the Parents Room, the convention center provides a single occupancy mother’s room in Lobby A. If you wish to use this room please contact the convention center staff in the Guest Services kiosk located in A atrium (entry location across the Hyatt – 14th/California Streets).
Bringing a Child to SC
SC is committed to making the conference as family-friendly as possible while maintaining the high-quality experience attendees have always enjoyed and ensuring safety of all participants.
The SC conference has established a policy on children’s presence at conference events. We have done this to inform and provide clarity on where and when children can participate. If you have any questions about this policy or think we have not addressed your concern, please email us.
Registering the child you bring to SC
All children (of any age) must be registered at the Special Assistance desk in the registration area. This is needed in the event of any emergencies or if a child needs to be re-united with a parent.
Access policies differ according to the age of the child and the particular conference venue involved.
Exhibit floor Access
To keep family members safe and comply with our insurance, children’s access to the exhibit floor is restricted based on age:
- Only individuals 16 years of age or older are allowed in the exhibit hall during installation, dismantling, or before/after posted exhibit hours.
- Children ages 12-16 are allowed to access the exhibit hall during regular hours, but must purchase an Exhibition pass. Each child must wear (gets to wear!) a badge and they need to be accompanied by a registered adult at all times.
- On Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00, parents with children of all ages are invited to walk through the exhibit hall during the family day session. All family members must be registered and badged, and be accompanied by a fee-paying relative, but no fee is charged during that period.
Access to Sessions
Children 6 months or under may be brought into all conference sessions. If the child begins to fuss or becomes a distraction to other attendees, the parent should step out to address the needs of the child. Reentry will be permitted once the disruption is resolved.
For children 6 months and up, on-site child care is available with a licensed vendor, at a nominal fee.
On-Site Child Care
Childcare services are available in the convention center to registered attendees and exhibitors. For a small fee, children between the ages of 6 months through 12 years old can participate.
For more information, go to our On-Site Child Care page
Family Day
Welcome families! If you have a fee-paying badge, you can register for a Family Day pass.
Then on Wednesday from 4pm – 6pm, come to the show floor and show your family around. Pass on your love of SC and HPC! Take pictures and share with @SCInclusivity twitter handle!
