Lalitha Shankar
Biography
Dr. Shankar has been at the Cancer Imaging Program at the
National Cancer Institute, NIH, since 2002, and has served
as Advisor to the Associate Director of the Division of
Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis. Her work and interests
include functional and molecular imaging in the diagnosis
and treatment of cancer, as well as evaluating the
performance characterizes of imaging modalities for the
management of cancer patients. She is responsible for
evaluating imaging tracers and techniques and provides
expertise for ongoing clinical trials. She is the Chief of
the Clinical Trials Branch at the Cancer Imaging Program,
and leads a long list of imaging committees and working
groups. She received her medical degree at Bangalore
University in India and her MS and PhD degrees in
Radiation Sciences at Hahnemann University in
Philadelphia. Her training includes work in Nuclear
Medicine, PET, and
Radio-Immunodiagnosis/Radio-Immunotherapy prior to joining
the NCI.
