Jason Leigh
Biography
Jason Leigh is Director of the Laboratory for Advanced
Visualization & Applications (LAVA) and Professor of
Information & Computer Sciences at University of Hawai‘i
at Mānoa. He is Director Emeritus of the Electronic
Visualization Laboratory and the Software Technologies
Research Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
His research expertise includes: big data visualization;
virtual reality; high performance networking; and, video
game design. He is the primary inventor of SAGE (Scalable
Adaptive Graphics Environment) and SAGE2 (Scalable
Amplified Group Environment) software, and co-inventor of
the CAVE2 Hybrid Reality Environment, which was licensed
to Mechdyne Corporation. In 2010, he initiated a
multidisciplinary area of research called Human
Augmentics, which is the study of technologies that can
expand the capabilities and characteristics of humans. His
work has received extensive media coverage, including: AP
News, New York Times, Popular Science’s Future Of, Nova
ScienceNow, NSF Science Now, PBS, and Forbes.
