Thorsten Kurth

Biography
Before joining NERSC in early 2016, Thorsten was working
as a Postdoc in the Nuclear Science Division at LBNL. He
developed and optimized codes for computing multi-baryon
correlations in Lattice QCD. He received his PhD from the
University of Wuppertal, Germany, in 2011, where he
performed calculations for electroweak matrix elements,
hadron and quark masses in Lattice QCD.
At NERSC, Thorsten is optimizing scientific applications for the Cori HPC system comprised of 9688 Xeon Phi 7250 nodes. Besides traditional HPC applications, he is also working on making popular deep learning frameworks efficient on Cori. At the moment, his work is focused on Caffe and Tensorflow.
