Michael Krause

Biography
VP and Fellow, HPE CTO Office
Throughout much of his career, Michael has been involved in creating new technologies to advance computer, I/O, network, and storage architectures. Many of these new technologies have led to dramatic changes within the industry across multiple market segments. Most recently, Michael conceived and drove the creation of Gen-Z (genzconsortium.org). Gen-Z is a new data access technology intended to scale across a wide-range of solutions and market segments. Gen-Z reduces communication complexity and SW/ HW overheads to maximize performance and optimize power utilization. Michael co-created InfiniBand and iWARP that moved RDMA technologies into mainstream volume adoption in HPC, cloud, and scale-out storage and filer solutions. Further, InfiniBand has become the dominate interconnect within the Top 500 systems. Michael also co-created and co-led the development of PCI Express architecture and its specification suite. Since its introduction, PCI Express has risen to be the most pervasive local I/O interconnect in the client and enterprise markets. Michael also co-authored and co-led development of PCI Express I/O virtualization technologies. These have enabled virtual server technologies to operate at near raw hardware performance. Most recently, he drove the OCuLink specification from inception to completion, and continues to contribute to the Base and CEM specifications. In addition to these volume technologies, Michael has contributed to the development of specifications covering IEEE 802.1Q (VEPA and EVB), iSCSI, FCoE, and HMC.
