Marcelo Amaral is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and working on a collaborative project between Barcelona Super Computer Center (BSC) and IBM Watson Research Center. This current project is related to develop topology and workload-aware scheduling systems to fully exploit the capabilities of modern systems, minimizing performance interference and maximizing resource efficiency. He concluded in the early of 2014 a Master degree at University of São Paulo (USP), working on a collaborative project between USP and Ericsson Research Center in Sweden. This project developed a network management system to improve energy efficiency while keeping the levels of performance and availability as high as possible. He has also worked in other research projects related to cache locality-aware in cloud environments and IPTV streams over P2P networks. Throughout his career, he has published six papers, one tutorial, and issued two patents.
