As part of the SC17 Technical Program, the Doctoral Showcase provides an important opportunity for students near the end of their Ph.D. to present a summary of their dissertation research in the form of short talks and thesis canvas.
Unlike technical paper and poster presentations, Doctoral Showcase highlights the entire contents of each dissertation, including previously published results, to allow for a broad perspective of the work.
The Doctoral Showcase program is open to anyone attending SC, and the program also provides an ideal opportunity for prospective employers in academia, research laboratories and industry to interact with prospective Ph.Ds. Students participating in the track greatly appreciate attendee feedback.
Dr. Pramod Ganapathi, a Ph.D. student at SUNY, StonyBrook, participated in the Doctoral Showcase program in 2016 and presented work on his Ph.D. titled “Automatic Discovery of Efficient Divide-&-Conquer Algorithms for Dynamic Programming Problems”.
“Participating at DS-SC16 was a nice experience for me. First, it gives a platform to showcase a Ph.D. student’s several years of research work,” said Ganapathi. “Second, it creates opportunities for networking and collaboration. Third, it opens the door to learning various cutting-edge research work on supercomputing.”
Ganapathi is currently a Founder & CEO of an online educational company called “Learning is Beautiful”.
Doctoral program co-chair Sunita Chandrasekaran, an Assistant Professor at the University of Delaware, USA, says, “SC is a premier international conference attended by thousands of scientists and industry partners from across the globe. Showcasing a Ph.D. dissertation at SC is a tremendous opportunity for prospective Ph.D students and an ideal forum to build contacts!”
